Charting the Asian Pathway Beyond Fossil Fuels: Debrief and Strategy Session on the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels in Santa Marta
May 29, 2026 | 12:30PM - 1:30PM Philippines Time | Zoom Registration Only
The First International Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, co-hosted by the governments of Colombia and the Netherlands in Santa Marta from April 24–29, 2026, marked a historic paradigm shift in international climate diplomacy.
This inaugural summit unfolded against a backdrop of deep global volatility, heavily impacted by the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Iran. The escalating military conflict in the Middle East has severely disrupted global oil supplies, choking vital transit routes like the Strait of Hormuz and triggering acute energy price spikes worldwide.
Organized by the Asian People's Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) & Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative, this briefing brings together key regional allies to unpack the outcomes of Santa Marta, translate global takeaways into regional strategies, and sharpen the Asian movement’s roadmap heading toward the UNFCCC SB64 sessions in Bonn, COP31, and the Tuvalu 2027 summit.
Speakers are as follows:
Lidy Nacpil – Coordinator, Asian People's Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD)
