Africa Regional Media Briefing

Africa Regional Media Briefing

Date: 15 April 2026
Time: 1 PM GMT/2PM WAT/3PM SAST/4PM EAT
Location: Virtual

As geopolitical tensions and conflict continue to unfold, there is growing recognition that fossil fuels are not only driving the climate crisis but also contributing to instability, economic shocks, and insecurity around the world. Meanwhile, the expansion of oil, gas, and coal continues to push the world further away from safe climate limits, with disproportionate impacts on regions like Africa, where communities face escalating climate risks despite contributing the least to the crisis.

Ahead of the First International Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, in Santa Marta, Colombia, this virtual regional media briefing hosted by The Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative, Power Shift Africa and Global Gas and Oil Network will provide expert insights and regional perspectives on the conference, the proposal for a Fossil Fuel Treaty, as well as their relevance for the continent. Journalists are invited to register to attend.
