Countries participating in discussions to develop a Fossil Fuel Treaty are showing their support for an international agreement to accelerate a global just transition to phase out oil, gas and coal; and are demonstrating their willingness to cooperate to achieve it.

Subnational governments and cities that endorse the proposal are also sending a strong signal to higher levels of government that action is urgently needed. They are showing they can walk the talk by taking steps to phase out fossil fuels and promote diversified, accessible renewable energy and other sustainable options.

When organizations and individuals endorse the proposal for a Fossil Fuel Treaty, they are letting their government officials in all levels know there is public demand for change and that civil society will remain steadfast in holding decision makers accountable.
