Building an evidence base on the need for and pathways to a Fossil Fuel Treaty is key for generating momentum for change. This is particularly true given oil, gas and coal have been overlooked until recent years at UN climate conferences and the industry’s concerted effort to obscure the truth about their products.
The Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative conducts its own research and contributes to projects led by aligned organisations and institutions. This work is creating a foundation of knowledge about the risks of oil, gas and coal; financial mechanisms for a just transition such as debt relief; and legal and political strategies for the creation and ratification of a treaty.
