European Fossil Fuel Treaty Campaign to Santa Marta and Beyond: A Webinar Briefing on the European Network Campaign for the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels

Colombia and the Netherlands will host the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels. The Conference is designed as a space for countries, subnational governments and other stakeholders that recognize the need to implement a transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly and equitable manner, in line with climate goals and the best available science.

Europe is a key region in advancing the transition away from fossil fuels. The continent is warming faster than any other, while recent geopolitical crises have exposed the profound risks that fossil fuel dependence poses to energy security, economic stability and household energy prices. With its historical responsibility for emissions and its economic and political influence, Europe has both the opportunity and the responsibility to help drive international cooperation toward a just and orderly transition away from coal, oil and gas. Now, we must mobilize the network to ensure that maximum engagement for our demands is achieved during the Conference.

This session will provide an overview of the upcoming conference, opportunities for civil society engagement, and the role the European network can play in building momentum for a just, orderly and equitable transition away from fossil fuels, including through international cooperation such as a Fossil Fuel Treaty.
