Amnesty International: Urgent fossil fuel phase-out critical to protect rights

This week, Amnesty International announced its public support for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

In this public statement, Amnesty International calls on states to phase out of fossil fuels and says that the oil and gas price rises resulting from Russia’s invasion should not be used as an excuse to increase fossil fuel exploration, use and production. Instead, current events are an additional reason to move to renewables and energy efficiency.

They also explain how fossil fuels and the climate crisis are already hindering a number of human rights, not least health, food, water, housing, work and even life itself.
